PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, April 14, 2010 -
FIVB President Mr. Jizhong Wei presented the
Dominican Republic Minister of Sports and
Recreation Mr. Felipe Payano with a masterpiece
painting to be delivered to Dr. Leonel Fernández
Reyna, President of the Dominican Republic in
gratitude for all the hospitality and warmth of
local authorities and the people in Punta Cana
during the FIVB Executive and Board of
Administration annual meetings.
Mr. Wei made the presentation at the end of the
opening ceremony of the joint meeting of FIVB
bodies attended by Payano, Luis Mejía Oviedo,
President of the Dominican Olympic Committee and
Ramón García, President of the Dominican
Volleyball Federation.
The work of art’s author is Mr. Wang Shuping, a
famous painter in China who has been committed
to artistic creation for over 30 years and whose
ink and wash works, particularly those of eagles
and hawks, have been acclaimed for its charm and
elegance.
He recently held an exhibition at the United
Nations Headquarters in New York and several
museums around the world have kept his works for
permanent display, including the world-famous
British Royal Museum of London.
Mr. Wang has won the honor of the “Oriental King
of the Eagle” and he has been invited to produce
paintings for Chinese Embassies and when Chinese
leaders go abroad for state visits, his works
are often presented to foreign head of state as
precious gifts.
